Something We Don’t Know is the result of a partnership between artist Kim Garcia, San Diego Mesa College’s Sculpture and Museum Studies Program, Friends Collective, and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. The project turns to MCASD’s collection to explore how the art object circulates between artist, curator, registrar, and viewer as it shifts in meaning within the dynamics of those roles.

Part 3, Something We Don't Know: CAN YOU SEE US?, aims to conclude the project by means of reflection and response to the harvested material and information from its previous iterations. This conclusionary phase will include Friends Collective, an artist group that aims to decontextualize art practices in order to encourage an open dialogue around modes of viewing. Friends Collective has been invited to dig deep, blow back the dust, and unearth the traces of contemporary art history within the stored collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego.

This event is part of MCASD’s Millennial Engagement initiative, supported by an Exploring Engagement grant awarded by Irvine Foundation. This innovative initiative seeks to expand arts engagement for ethnically diverse college and university students in San Diego by inviting them to collaborate with millennial artists.

This program is free to attend.
