A series of performance by graduate students in the Department of Music
Organized by Kyle Motl

Improvisation at the UAG brings improvising musicians into dialogue with each other, the works within the gallery, and the space of the UAG itself. October 19 brings the duos of Kyle Motl and Drew Ceccato followed by Gordon Grdina and Tommy Babin. Motl and Ceccato (contrabass and saxophone) weave dense chaotic textures with split second departures. Stephen Malagodi writes “with Motl and Ceccato, no cliche dares enter the room.” Active in Vancouver and New York, Juno award winning oud/guitarist Gordon Grdina combines jazz, free improvisation, and Arabic classical music, and is joined by fellow Canadian transplant, Tommy Babin, on bass.
