Visual Arts MFA candidate Erick Msumanje's film In the Night will be at an upcoming exhibition, Translations in Kolkata.

Translations in Kolkata is the fifth international young artists exhibition promoted by Emergent Art Space, a non profit organization based in San Francisco, USA.

The exhibition is organized and curated in collaboration by Emergent Art Space and artist Samindranath Majumdar, Professor at The Indian College for Art and Draftmanship, Kolkata. It will feature more than 40 works; painting, drawings, sculptures, installations and videos by young artists from Kolkata and from 15 countries around the world.

The Workshop, on the same theme, will be mentored by Mr. Samindranath Majumdar. 13 participants were selected among a large pool of applicants.
Their works will be exhibited to the public at the Open Studio on February 26.

The first edition of the international exhibition ‘TRANSLATIONS’ was held at Reed College in Portland, Oregon, USA in January/February 2015. Part of that exhibition is now travelling to Kolkata, where it will be enriched by a large and diverse group of works by local artists.

The theme ‘Translations’ invited artists to reflect on the challenges, difficulties and possibilities inherent in the effort to translate and communicate, both literally and metaphorically, and to the large and small changes, transitions and transformations which are part of the human experience. More than 100 artists have responded to the ‘Call for Art’ we launched last October in Kolkata, showing a broad participation and a great response.
