Experiments in Media and Movement

Friday 9 June 2017 // 7-10PM

It's often one of the best shows of the year, when graduate students from the departments of theater, music, visual arts and dance collaborate on joint projects that push the envelope of the performing arts. Crossing Boundaries is part of an experimental technology and performance course created by Music professor Shahrokh Yadegari, who also directs the Initiative for Digital Exploration of Arts and Sciences (IDEAS) in the Qualcomm Institute.

Organizers of this year's Crossing Boundaries are promising digitally-infused dance, solar sound machines, disintegrating holograms, K-POP and much more. The 2017 edition will present works of art that reflect the culmination of deep collaborations among grad students in the arts, and the performances are hosted this year by the Qualcomm Institute and its IDEAS performing-arts series.

The event is made possible though the guidance of IDEAS director Shahrokh Yadegari and fellow UC San Diego professors Victoria Petrovich and Lisa Porter, both from Theatre and Dance.

Crossing Boundaries will feature work by graduate students Abraham King, Barbara Byers, Brandon Rosen, Benjamin Rempel, Daniel Fishkin, Dylan Key, Elisabet Curbelo, Hillary Young, HeeJung Shin, Johannes Regnier, John Burnett, Kasson Marroquin, Maya VanderSchuit, Paolo Zúñiga, Tiange Zhou and Veronica Santiago.
