"Nature Improved" Panel Discussion

Hear from several curators (Bram Dijkstra, Charlotte Cagan, Alessandra, Moctezuma, Daniel Foster) and artists (Wick Alexander, Lynn Schuette) in the Nature Improved exhibition as they discuss topics surrounding contemporary landscape painting. This First Tuesday program is off–site at the San Diego History Center in Balboa Park located at 1649 El Prado #3, San Diego, CA 92101. Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA) and San Diego History Center (SDHC) have collaborated with top regional art scholars to produce a joint exhibition that offers visitors a unique and diverse perspective from which to view our region’s landscape. Nature Improved: San Diego Artists Interpret Our Landscape, will open at SDHC on September 19 and at OMA on November 1 and will continue through January 26, 2014 at SDHC and February 23, 2014 at OMA. The dual exhibition—the first such collaboration between SDHC and OMA—is a juried invitational with submissions from local artists. The exhibition presents 24 regional artists and 90 artworks in total. Work will be split evenly between the two institutions. Along with the four featured artists: William Glen Crooks, Carol Lindemulder, Michael Field and Lynn Schuette, the exhibition includes: Wick Alexander, Eleanor Antin, Stuart Burton, Scott B. Davis, Jeanne Dunn, Roman de Salvo, John Brinton Hogan, James Hubbell, Judith Jarcho, Brad Maxey, Duncan McCosker, Scott Polach, Iana Quesnell, Kim Reasor, Gail Roberts, Michael Richard Rosenblatt, Paul Strahm, Perry Vasquez, Duke Windsor, and Leah I. Younker.

The lead organizer of the exhibition is Charlotte Cagan, Executive Director, San Diego History Center. Bram Dijkstra, renowned author and art scholar, is the lead curator of the exhibition. The panel of curators also includes: Derrick Cartwright, Director of University Galleries, Professor of Practice and Art History, University of San Diego; Alessandra Moctezuma, Gallery Director and Professor of Fine Art, San Diego Mesa College; and Daniel Foster, Executive Director, Oceanside Museum of Art.
