The DCP (Discursive and Curatorial Production Initiative) and the Visual Arts SME Gallery are thrilled
to present: SUN RAS Live Scoring with special guest RAS_G & The Afrikan Space Program in the context of the exhibition DumbSun: A kosmos of specters revolving around Disney’s Dumbo and Sun Ra by Tomas Moreno on Thursday, March 13th, 2014 from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

This event introduces a new series of performance, live scoring and expanded cinema events that utilize different media platforms which, explore the intersections of hip hop, video, performance, and Sci-‐Fi imaginaries from the perspective of subculture, memory, politics, racial and class constructs. The live scoring will feature an improvisational multi-‐channel show that merges popular music, sub-‐cultural practice and counterculture. In this new series the DCP / SME Visual Arts Gallery interrogates how an archeology of populist futurist imaginaries and their tension and political positioning in contemporary art debates re-‐define the construct of modern aesthetics and post-‐conceptual productions in a dialectical relation to mass culture.

RAS_G spends countless hours cooking in the beat-‐kitchen/information space station know as Spacebase. Producer, DJ, label Curator at Poo-‐Bah Records, he is one of the earliest members of Flying Lotus Brainfeeder Collective. He is a legend in the world renowned L.A. Beatmaking scene. He has received spins around the globe from heavyweights such as Gilles Peterson, Benji B and has shared the stage with Madlib, Kode 9, Dabrye and many more!

He has produced nine solo albums, thirteen EPs and has done remixes for the likes of Flying Lotus, Dwight Tribble, Build an Ark and Mono/Poly.

His live cosmic sets filled with doses of Heavy 808 psychedelic beat soup, punctuated by his trademark "Oh Ras!" shout-‐outs leave crowds wanting prepared to leave the planet!
