The Department of Art and the Barrick Museum welcome Artist Anya Gallaccio as a guest speaker of the 2015 UNLV Visiting Artist Lecture Series.

Anya Gallaccio is known for installations that employ organic materials that are subject to change and decay—flowers and fruit, sugar and ice—even as her work is inflected with a minimalist vocabulary suggesting durability and timelessness. The elemental quality of these materials results in natural processes of transformation and decay, often with unpredictable results which are dialogue with land artists 60's including Robert Smithson and Walter de Maria and their interest in entropy. She has international solo exhibitions, at institutions including Tate London (2003); Palazzo delle Papesse, Siena (2005); Sculpture Center, New York (2006); Camden Art Centre, London (2008); and Artpace, San Antonio (2013). Gallaccio will have a forthcoming solo exhibition at MASS MoCA in North Adams, MA. Her work is included in numerous public and private collections, including the Tate London; Victoria & Albert Museum, London; and Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney. A nominee for the prestigious Turner Prize in 2003, the Britishborn artist is based in San Diego and teaches at the University of California San Diego.

The UNLV Visiting Artists Lecture Series features a diverse array of some of the most compelling artists and thinkers working in the art world today. This important program brings both established and emerging artists to campus to discuss their work in public lectures and to offer individual critiques to our BFA and MFA students. This program has established itself as an invaluable resource for UNLV students and the public alike. The primary mission of the Visiting Artists Lecture Series is to educate, inspire and foster a greater understanding and appreciation of contemporary art through visual presentations and discourse. Sponsored by the UNLV Department of Art and the Barrick Museum.
