Interested in marginalized narratives and invisible histories, in an effort to create a platform not only for herself and her personal experiences growing up in both Mexico and Los Angeles, the artist/writer/performer Karla Diaz will be speaking about activism. Filtered thru her artistic lens she will talking about the role of the artist as an activist, an educator, and as a facilitator in different contexts including working with diverse communities. Diaz holds degrees in art, literature and critical theory as well as training in theater. She is one of the founders of Slanguage Studio, an artist-run space and collective in Wilmington, CA. She has done projects and exhibitions in many venues including MOCA, LACMA, the Whitney, ICA Boston, the Serpentine Gallery in London, the San Jose Museum of Art, among others. She has written for magazines and journals including Artforum, FlashArt, Beautiful Decay and Radical Actions.
