Press Release: http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2013/may/26/tp-form-and-function/

At once comic, contemplative and expressive of the human condition, Ernest Silva's body of work reflects his interest in using multiple-narratives to explore personal and universal images. Recognized for his metaphoric imagery of deer, lighthouses, water, birds and figures, Volcanos and Full Moons presents a concentrated survey of important artworks from Silva's distinguished career spanning over four decades.

Silva derives his imagery from a variety of sources, from popular culture as well as art history: family photographs and vintage storybook covers from the 1950s. Interested in the intersection between painting, sculpture and installation this exhibition reflects a combination of the three that transforms the galleries into a stage set with drawings and paintings on the walls and props on the floor. Silva encourages the viewer to become part of the painting and the story, losing the separation between artist, art and audience.

Join OMA for an illustrated lecture with Ernest Silva on Saturday, May 25 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Complimentary for OMA members and free with general admission. The Mega Exhibition Reception in conjunction with the opening of three exhibitions including: Looking for Things: Jay Johnson, Intersections: Charles Arnoldi and Tony DeLap: Selections from 60 Years, will take place on Saturday, June 29, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The reception is complimentary for OMA members and $10 for nonmembers.
