S. Mendelsohn combines strategies drawn from experimental documentary and theater to create sound, video, and performance works. Through a process of observation, writing, and collaboration, their projects capture moments of ambivalence—encounters in which narratives bend, power relationships shift, and binaries come apart. Raised in New York, Mendelsohn is an MFA candidate in Visual Arts at the University of California, San Diego. They hold a BA in visual arts and anthropology from the University of Chicago, and were a 2014-15 Fulbright Fellow in Vienna, where they produced collaborative works reflecting on the legacy of Austro-fascism in public space.
