“Where there is no gift there is no art,” writes Lewis Hyde in his insightful book about the relationship between gift giving, the imagination and the arts, simply entitled The Gift. Ernest Silva clearly understood this vital dimension of art making and being an artist. If you want to see a large example of his generosity as an artist, pay a visit to the New Children’s Museum downtown and spend a little time inside "The Rain House."
