In her "Coming to Jones Road" series, Ringgold tells stories of the Underground Railroad. Her vivid images are enhanced by stories running all around the image: "On our wedding day I was cryin and prayin we wouldn't get caught," "One day they just up and walk to freedom and nobody see 'em go."
