MFA Application Procedure
| Thank you for your interest in the MFA program in Visual Arts at
UCSD. Please review the faculty biographies and
the MFA program description to determine if this
program is a match for you. Admission is based on a competitive review of portfolio materials. |
|
|
Application for admission as a UCSD graduate student must be
made to the Office of Graduate Studies. Please visit OGS's
website for information about application procedures and filing fees. You must officially submit your application before you can be given a username and password to access our online portfolio site.
|
|
| The Visual Arts Department accepts new students for Fall quarter
admittance only. The deadline for applications is January 19, 2010 for Fall Quarter, 2010
admittance. In addition to the online application, you will need to send the following supplemental
information to the Visual Arts
Department: online portfolio at http://va-grad2.ucsd.edu/~va ,
and send all transcripts
from prior institutions. If you are a foreign applicant, you must also submit TOEFL (language)
scores. We do not require the GRE. |
|
| All supplemental information must be received by the January
19th deadline to be considered part
of your application. These items can arrive separately, because a file will be set up in your name as
soon as we receive any of these materials. Transcripts,
where you have no control over when they are mailed, should be sent as early as possible in order
to arrive by the deadline. Faculty letters of recommendation need to be submitted online as well. |
|
Please send all supplemental information to the following address: |
B.J. Barclay, Graduate Coordinator
UCSD Visual Arts Department, 0084
9500 Gilman Drive
La Jolla, California 92093-0084
|
Nothing will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee until after the January 19, 2010 deadline.

You may create your online portfolio in a number of different formats. Our program is cross-disciplinary
and it is not unusual for an applicant to have several different formats within their portfolio. The
faculty are interested in seeing your most accomplished, recent work, rather than a chronology of
work done over the span of your career. A good gauge would be to include work you've done
within the last two years. |
|
If you have any questions at all about the admissions process, please contact B.J. Barclay, Graduate
Coordinator, by telephone (858) 534-2862; FAX (858) 534-7976; or email bbarclay@ucsd.edu. |
