Steve Boyer is an artist, designer and inventor with over 20 years of experience creating content and developing technology for a variety of interactive media and is currently the Director of Research and Development for Interactive Entertainment at Vivendi Games one of the largest game publihers in the world. He has designed video games, electronic toys and musical instruments and collaborated with dozens of artists on interactive installations. Much of his work has involved exploring the spatial qualities of light and sound and has been granted U.S. patents for both an electronic musical instrument and an animated light sculpture. He has recently joined Workshop LEVITAS, an AIA award-winning international design collaboration of architects, engineers, interactive designers and experimentalists, in order to realize 'Crosswired', a responsive architectural installation with music that premiered at the Architecture and Design Museum in Los Angeles in April 2007. Mr. Boyer was on the faculty of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago's Department of Art and Technology Studies from 1995-2001 before moving to LA to attend architecture school. While earning his masters degree in architecture he collaborated with architects Wes Jones and Doug Jackson to create a robotic architectural space in which steel beams and columns slowly repositioned themselves. His recent work has involved exploring the impact of architecturally-scaled electronic media on the perception of space and the corresponding effects upon social structures. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Northwestern University in 1985 and a Master of Architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture in 2005.
