Asa Mendelsohn

Asa Mendelsohn is from New York. They make performances, sound, and video works that develop through a process of observation, writing, and collaboration. Their projects combine experimental strategies from ethnographic and narrative storytelling practices, and often focus on personal relationships as a way to navigate seemingly inaccessible infrastructures, histories, and systems of power.

Asa studied visual arts and anthropology at the University of Chicago, and was a Fulbright Fellow in Vienna, where they produced collaborative projects addressing the legacy of Austro-fascism in public space. Their work has been performed and exhibited at venues including Kunsthalle Wien and WUK (Vienna), Künstlerhaus Halle für Kunst und Medien (Graz), Links Hall (Chicago), the Darling Foundry (Montreal), Anthology Film Archives (New York), and the Blanton Museum of Art (Austin, TX).
