Working as a visual artist and musician, Los Angeles based artist, Eamon Ore-Giron has exhibited and performed internationally in venues such as LACMA (LA), MOCA (LA), Museo Rufino Tamayo (Mexico City), Deitch Projects (NYC), and Consonni (Bilbao, Spain). His work explores the possibilities of cultural transmutation. He produces music under the name DJ LENGUA and performs in both the collaborative group OJO as well as Los Jaichackers. This coming Fall 2012 he will be exhibiting as the artist in residence at the 18th Street Arts Center in Santa Monica. Ore-Giron was born in 1973 in Tuscon, Arizona, and he studied at San Francisco Art Institute (BFA 1999) and UCLA (MFA 2005).
DJ LENGUA has been tearing up backyard parties, cantinas, and clubs all over California and the world for years with his solid cumbia sounds and innovative jockey sensibilities. His ability to fuse loops from traditional Latin tunes and cumbias with chunky, straightforward beats create seriously infectious mixes. As a founding member of DISCOS UNICORNIO record label, DJ LENGUA has released numerous mixes and three vinyl LP's. Well known at the infamous Club Unicornio nights in S.F. he is also resident selector with the Mas Exitos crew at the Verdugo Bar in L.A. as well as the Mas Discoteca parties in L.A.
As DJ LENGUA, Ore-Giron reaches an appreciative global audience of obscure musical styles and their subcultures in the multiple contexts of fine art institution, neighborhood bar and dance club with his adaptation of obscure Latin American subgenres such as Peruvian cumber into contemporary electronic dance music. His resulting sonic creations tend to redirect contemporary pop sensibilities back toward a the folk through a deep respect of traditional styles.
