Media Policies

  1. THERE IS NO INSURANCE COVERAGE ON THIS EQUIPMENT. IF LOST, STOLEN, OR DAMAGED THE USER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACEMENT!
  2. Anyone who intentionally abuses equipment risks the loss of check out privileges.
  3. Anyone who intentionally abuses facilities risks the loss of access privileges.
  4. Absolutely no smoking is allowed in any of the edit rooms. Users who insist on doing so risk the loss of privileges.
  5. Absolutely no food or drink is allowed to be brought into any of the edit rooms. Users who insist on doing so risk the loss of privileges.
  6. Graduate Students and Faculty have equal access, the same rules apply equally.
  7. Visiting Faculty have access only during their teaching term.
  8. Graduate Students admitted with a media emphasis and media Faculty are the only people with automatic access and checkout privileges.
  9. All other Graduate Students and Faculty must satisfy a basic knowledge requirement. This basic knowledge requirement may be met with proof of previous production experience or passing the class VIS 70 (Intro to Media) or the equivalent.
  10. All Graduate Student production utilizing Visual Arts Department equipment and facilities must pertain to satisfying degree requirements. No work for hire is supported or permitted. Proof may be required.
  11. All Graduate Students using equipment and facilities during the one quarter grace period following a quarter of enrollment must sign a use agreement indicating that they are taking personal responsibility for all damage and/or loss.
  12. Technical Staff may pre-empt reservations or restrict equipment and facilities availability as required for maintenance or repairs.

Equipment

  3. Equipment may only be checked out for three days in a row.
  4. Equipment may be reserved only up to two (2) weeks in advance.
  5. If Equipment is not picked up on the first day of the reservation by check out hour (2:30 to 3:30) then the reservation is no longer valid and the equipment may be checked out to anyone else who needs it.
  6. Do not pass equipment to another user, bypassing normal procedure. If, during a weekend, normal procedure must be bypassed, responsibility for the equipment may be transferred in this case by: (1) having the new user fill out a checkout form and (2) making sure the form makes it back to checkout in a timely manner. So, take a blank form with you if an equipment pass is planned over a weekend. The original user retains total responsibility for the equipment if any disputes arise.
  7. Equipment must be returned on time.
  8. Users may not depend upon phone calls or other reminders from staff in order to return equipment on time.
  9. Users who inconvenience other users by not returning equipment on time risk the loss of check out privileges.
  10. Users who are habitually late returning equipment risk the loss of check out privileges whether or not other users are inconvenienced.

A/B Roll and Cuts Only video edit rooms

  1. Anyone who intentionally abuses facilities risks the loss of access privileges.

  6. Time may be reserved only up to one (1) week in advance.

16mm Film room

Media 100 non-linear video edit room

  1. Anyone who intentionally abuses facilities risks the loss of access privileges.
  2. Absolutely no smoking is allowed in any of the edit rooms. Users who insist on doing so risk the loss of privileges.
  3. Absolutely no food or drink is allowed in any of the edit rooms. Users who insist on doing so risk the loss of privileges.
  4. Hard drive space may be reserved only up to two (2) weeks in advance.
  5. No consecutive hard drive space reservations permitted.
  6. All users must demonstrate previous knowledge of Apple computers and the Macintosh operating system.
  7. All users must complete the Media 100 tutorial before attempting other work.
  8. Do not pass Media 100 keys to another user, bypassing normal procedure. If, during a weekend, normal procedure must be bypassed, responsibility for the Media 100 key may be transferred in this case by: (1) having the new user fill out a checkout form and (2) making sure the form makes it back to checkout in a timely manner. So, take a blank form with you if a Media 100 key pass is planned over a weekend. The original user retains total responsibility for the Media 100 key if any disputes arise.
