MFA Admissions

Thank you for your interest in the MFA program in Visual Arts at UCSD. Please review the faculty biographies and the MFA program description to determine if this program is a match for you. Admission is based on a competitive review of portfolio materials. Application for admission as a UCSD graduate student must be made to the Office of Graduate Studies. Please visit OGS's website for information about application procedures and filing fees. You must officially submit your application before you can be given a username and password to access our online portfolio site. The Visual Arts Department accepts new students for Fall quarter admittance only. The deadline for applications is January 16, 2013 for Fall quarter, 2013 admittance. If you are a foreign applicant, you must also submit TOEFL (language) scores. We do not require the GRE.

Nothing will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee until after the January 16, 2013 deadline. You may create your online portfolio in a number of different formats. Our program is cross-disciplinary and it is not unusual for an applicant to have several different formats within their portfolio. The faculty are interested in seeing your most accomplished, recent work, rather than a chronology of work done over the span of your career. A good gauge would be to include work you've done within the last two years.
