voicing space

John Dombroski & Jonathan Nussman: Voicing Space

12 April 2018, 5-7 p.m.
Experimental Theater, Conrad Prebys Music Center, UC San Diego

SD Soundings, UC San Diego Music Department

A new immersive work for voice and resonant sound, Voicing Space is a site-specific meditation on the harmonic subtleties of the human vocal process and the spaces, both internal and external, where it resonates. The work will deconstruct, measure, and reconstruct space and language, investigating the physicality of sound through resonant frequencies specific to the space, intent on dialogue with voices past and present.

Performance will last about an hour though sounds will continue until 7pm. Doors will be open and listeners are welcome to enter, exit, and move through the space for the duration of the work.

Voicing Space is a collaboration between John Dombroski (MFA Candidate, UCSD Visual Arts) and Jonathan Nussman (vocalist, PhD Candidate, UCSD Music, Contemporary Vocal Performance).

This work is part of SD Soundings (formerly known as Springfest), supported and curated by the University of California San Diego Department of Music.
