Javier Fresneda

Javier Fresneda is an artist and researcher based in Mexico City since 2011. He holds a MFA in Contemporary Art Theory by the UEM - Universidad Europea de Madrid (Spain), and currently pursues PhD in Art History, Theory, and Criticism with emphasis in Art Practice by UCSD - University of California San Diego (U.S.) In addition to his academic background, he has participated in workshops with Anton Vidokle; Julieta Aranda; Sande Cohen; Cuauhtémoc Medina; Bea Schlingelhoff (SOMASummer 2012); Guy Ben-Ner (CA2M, 2010); Rirkrit Tiravanija (Salvador Diaz Gallery, 2009); Zachary Lieberman (MedialabMadrid, 2006); and Serge Spitzer (UCM 2005). Their projects and interventions have been exhibited in institutions such as AKV St. Joost (the Netherlands); SOMA Mexico; MataderoMadrid (Spain); Kunsthaus Bethanien (Germany); the ParalelosMANIFESTA 8 and VentoSul Biennial (Brazil); fairs such as Gallery Weekend Berlin (Germany); ARCO (Spain); LISTE Basel (Switzerland); MACO (Mexico); and galleries as Luis Adelantado (Spain); Westside (Netherlands); Valenzuela Klenner (Colombia); JuneFirst (Germany) among others. He has given lectures and conferences in MNCARS Reina Sofia (Spain); CA2M Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (Spain); GlogauAIR (Germany); UCM-Universidad Complutense Madrid or UADY Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán (Mexico); receiving awards and scholarships by the FONCA-PROTRAD (2014); SRE-Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores - Gobierno de México (2011- 2012); Ministerio de Cultura de España (2012); Ayuntamiento de Madrid-Spain (2010); Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed, the Netherlands (2010). His publication projects have been part of events such as The New York Art Book Fair at MOMA PS1 2013 - 2015, ARCOeditorial or L.A. Art Book Fair 2015.
