Biography:

Withdrew from program 2024

Eduardo Thomas is a research-based visual artist and film curator whose main interest lies in the many ways that our reality can be constructed/explained/experienced through cinematic means. He is a founding member of SOMA (MX) and has collaborated as film curator in establishing exhibition and discursive platforms such as Ambulante Film Festival (MX), Berlin Documentary Forum (DE), Cinema 23 (MX), and the MOCAM (Museum of Contemporary Art on the Moon). In 2013 he was awarded a research grant by The Japan Foundation to inquire into the relationship between the Shinto-Buddhist concept of ‘ma’ and experimental film practices in Japan. Currently, he is co-curator of the film series Film at REDCAT, CalArts Center for the Arts in downtown Los Angeles, and a PhD candidate at the Department of Visual Arts of UCSD, where he is pursuing a degree in Art History, Theory and Criticism with an Art Practice concentration.
