Computer Labs

VAF 228

VAF 228 is a computer lab and teaching space that provides undergraduate students with access to iMac workstations. This environment supports a wide range of digital media, graphic design, and photo-based projects. The space functions as both a classroom and an open lab, making it ideal for tutorials, workshops, and critiques within the media arts and speculative design curriculum.

Access and Safety

Students enrolled in a class using this facility are provided with a quarterly class code to access this space outside of scheduled class time or follow these instructions:

Vis Arts major can obtain an access code by signing into sal.ucsd.edu. And use the computer lab outside of scheduled class times.

Mandeville B-206

Located in Mandeville Center, Room B206, the 2000 sq. ft. Computer Lab provides undergraduate students with a well-equipped environment for digital creativity, research, and coursework. The lab features iMac workstations and a media cabinet with a wide range of input devices from MIDI keyboards, to Leap Motions, and more.

In addition to serving as an open workspace, this lab functions as a dedicated classroom and tutorial space, supporting structured instruction and hands-on learning. Students benefit from small group tutorials, workshops, and individual guidance designed to develop technical skills and foster creative experimentation.

Mandeville B-114 and B-116

The ICAM Computer Lab (B114) and the adjoining ICAM Project Space (B116) together provide a dynamic 1600 sq. ft. creative DIY technology hub designed to support students enrolled as a Visual Arts ICAM major and Speculative Design Courses. These labs offer a blend of computing power, digital interfaces, and experimental tools that foster innovation across media, and interactive art practices.
Access to these labs is granted through faculty approval, ensuring that students pursuing the ICAM major and related courses have a dedicated space to explore creative coding, visual media production, and interdisciplinary project work.
