Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the UC San Diego Department of Visual Arts hosted the 10th Annual Adam D. Kamil Media Awards online. All 25 trailers can be viewed below. The Ceremony was streamed on YouTube at 6pm on May 15th, 2020, and featured video statements from the Dean of the School of Arts & Humanities, the Chair of the Department of Visual Arts, friends of the Kamil family, and the awards committee. The committee announced the honorable mentions, runners up, and the winner of the Kamil Media Awards. The winning video was then screened in the same YouTube stream. A private reception was held over Zoom with the Kamil family, friends, and the prize winners. The department thanks those who joined us for this special event honoring the work of our talented Undergraduate students!

“We hope that through this award, Adam’s creative spirit will inspire others to develop their talents and to grow as sympathetic and sensitive individuals,” stated Elaine Kamil.

The Adam D. Kamil Media Awards were developed to help UC San Diego undergraduates polish their skills in film production and to help them realize their creative potential in this field. Adam was a UC San Diego, Visual Arts Media major with a passion for the power of media to connect people. To honor the memory of their son, the Kamil family has established the Adam D. Kamil Media Awards. The awards consist of a grand prize of $2,000 and two finalist prizes of $1,000 each. For the 10th Annual Awards, the Department created a new prize, named for long-time faculty member Babette Mangolte, specifically for quality work with 16mm film. The Babette Mangolte Prize for Excellence with 16mm also includes a $1,000 prize.
